Empathy in the US government

You may have heard that there's voting going on at Change.org, and the top 10 ideas will be presented to the Obama administration. And one that is in the running has to do with Empathy. The idea, as I understand it, is to create a Department of Peace, and within that there would be a branch specifically devoted to empathy.

The proposal was developed by NVC (Nonviolent Communication) certified trainers. If you're not familiar with NVC, check it out at www.cnvc.org -- it's an incredibly powerful communications tool.

You can vote at www.change.org. Click on "ideas" in the upper right corner, then find and vote for "Bridging the Empathy Gap." You just need to register, and citizens of countries other than the US can register as well. Let's put the idea in the top 10!

Thanks so much for endorsing Bridging the Empathy Gap - Yes we can! at change.org . We so appreciate your posting the widget and writing on your blog.

We still need about 1500 by this Thursday to have this Idea in the top 10 at the end of voting. Time is short!

Would you spread the word in any way you can to get us there? Such as:

* posting in any blogs and to newsletters and asking others to post, too. (I'll write write something if you like.)
* sending a request to vote to your friends, families, and any lists you can think of (see one below)
* asking others widget on the widget on their websites also (the widget is in the bottom right of the link to vote)
* contacting anyone you know (or who knows someone) who is part of an organization that could post to their list, blog, and/or website

Below is a sample email to send to your lists. Please let me know if there is any other way I can support you in taking action now.

Warmly,

Subject: For immediate action before January 15! This could result in a real change in how government functions.

Dear Friends,

We have endorsed an Idea for Change in America which could change the way the US Government makes decisions and creates policies that address more needs domestically and worldwide. Would you to take a look and consider voting?

If another 1500 votes are generated by Thursday we can create the political will to bring practical, efficient tools of decision-making and facilitation to the US government that are based on increased mutual understanding and awareness so that actions taken will be less costly to life, liberty, and the well-being of all.

Please look at Bridging the Empathy Gap - Yes we can!
http://www.change.org/ideas/view/bridging_the_empathy_gap_-_yes_we_can
and if you are willing, follow the brief instructions until the blue vote box turns and stays red and your vote is counted.

Change.org and the Case Foundation will present the top voted 10 Ideas for Change in America to the Obama Administration on Inaugural Day and then, with other non-profits, lobbying campaigns will be created for each of the 10 Ideas.

Please send this invitation to friends, family, blogs and lists. With your help....Yes we can!

With hope and resolve,
